LCD Soundsystem frontman to open wine bar

James Murphy, the former frontman of dance-punk band LCD Soundsystem, is to open a wine bar in New York’s trendy  Williamsburg next month.

As reported by The New York Times, Murphy will open the Four Horsemen in Brookyln’s Williamsburg neighbourhood.

Located at 295 Grand Street, the 40-seater spot will focus on natural wines and will offer a small menu devised by Nick Curtola of Brooklyn pizzeria Franny’s.

The bar will serve 160 wines by the bottle, which Murphy plans to gradually expand to 350, with traditional wines given airtime alongside more out there wines.

“We’re not dogmatic. We don’t want to be part of an argument. If I opened a record store, it wouldn’t be all punk rock and esoterica,” he told TNYT.

“We keep calling it a wine bar because we want to underpromise and over deliver. It has to be economically sustainable. It’s not a vanity project,” he added.

Keen to offer the optimum aural experience, the walls have been kitted out with sound-absorption panels to eliminate the room’s echo.

Having played his last gig with LCD Soundsystem in 2011, Murphy has gone on to work on other projects, composing the score for Noah Baumbach’s recently released film While We’re Young, starring Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts.
