Around 40 staff have already achieved Level 1 – the beginner’s qualification awarded by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust – and initially six of these are moving up the ladder to Level 2.
Previously, all new-starters at the company were offered Level 1 training, but after requests from staff and enthusiasm from management, all levels are now being supported by LCB.
Some employees are even keen to make it to the Master of Wine level, the highest qualification in the world of wine, according to Jane Renwick, general manager of the company’s Vinothéque fine wine warehouse.
Speaking to db, she said that it was part of the company’s philosophy to allow staff the chance to progress and learn about the products they handle every day.
“People are our power, and investing in people is part of our progression plan. If they have sufficient enthusiasm then we’re happy to support them,” she said.
