Christie’s to offer ex-cellar Guigal in HK
Auction house Christie’s is to offer an ex-cellar consignment of Guigal, another from Laroche and the cellar of a private collector in Hong Kong this month.
Starting on 30 May, the two-day sale is expected to realise HK$20 million and will feature some of the greatest names in wine from all over Europe and parts of the New World.
A highlight of the sale is an ex-cellar consignment from E. Guigal which features no fewer than 12 2000-2011 vintage verticals, of “La Mouline”, “La Turque” and “La Landonne” as well as Côte-Rôties property Château d’Ampuis among others.
All of the bottles have been signed by Marcel and Philippe Guigal and there will be a small collection of the extremely rare “Hommage à Etienne Guigal” from the 1989, 1990 and 2005 vintages in bottles and magnums.
Another ex-cellar consignment will come from Chablis estate Domaine Laroche and will include a lot auctioned for charity.
Highlights from this part of the sale include three verticals of magnums from 2006-2011 from grand cru “Les Blanchots” and another magnum vertical of the “Reserve de l’Obedience”.
Six bottles of 1987 Les Blanchots will be auctioned in support of “Operation Smile”, a charity that provides surgery for poor children with cleft lips/palates.
As well as the six bottles, the lot includes a “unique experience” for two to the Domaine, including flights to and from Hong Kong and the transfer down to Chablis, with a night at the four-star Laroche hotel in the centre of town.
The third collection in the sale comes from the private collection of Yap Chee Meng. A former KPMG Asia Pacific COO, Chee Meng has been collecting for over three decades and includes some of the finest wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Australia, Spain, the Loire, Mosel and Italy.
Notable names in this part of the sale include: Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Rousseau, Roumier, Faiveley, Mugnier, Liger-Belair, Lafon, Le Pin, Ausone and Haut-Brion blanc.
Chee Meng commented: “Wine is a passion and I am careful about provenance. I don’t think I can stop collecting. This sale will allow me to continue to do so and at the same time, offer fellow collectors accessibility to some interesting bottles which they can share with friends.”
