Brewery cans fresh water for flood victims
Anheuser-Busch has temporarily halted production of beer and is instead canning fresh water to help the victims of recent severe storms and flooding in Oklahoma and Texas.
A batch of 50,000 cans of emergency drinking water have been produced at the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Cartersville, Georgia, and will be donated to the American Red Cross, as reported by NBC News.
“Right now our production line is running emergency drinking water instead of beer,” Rob Haas, Cartersville brewery manager told NBC News. “It’s something we’re uniquely positioned to do in a very timely period,” he added.
Heavy storms and floods swept through Texas and Oklahoma this week leaving at least 25 people dead, dozens missing and thousands of homes damaged. The storms brought a five-year drought in the area to a climactic end.
“Oklahoma and Texas are in an unprecedented situation,” said Red Cross spokesman Jordan Scott. “There are a lot of folks in need and everyone’s coming forward to help out.”
He said the additional drinking water would be “critical” to relief efforts in the area.
