Fine dining pop-up for dogs planned
A pop-up restaurant dedicated to treating pampered pooches to a fine dining experience is set to take place in London this month.
Described as a “holistic dining event for four-legged friends”, The Curious Canine Kitchen will pop up on 11 and 12 April in London’s Shoreditch.
Featuring two seatings each day, it is believed to be the first event of its kind to serve high-end, freshly prepared, organic canine cuisine. Tickets are £20, which allows one dog and a human companion to each enjoy a five-course, drink-paired set menu.
This event pays homage to Juliette de Baïracli Levy’s book The Complete Herbal Book for the Dog.
“I am impassioned to provoke a rethink in healthy canine dining and hope that this event, the first of its kind here, inspires better doggie dinners across the UK”, she said of the event.
Natty Mason, event organiser and “spiritual dog trainer”, has worked with whole foods and gluten-free trained chef Emily Stephenson to devise the event’s menu.
The three-course doggy dinner with canapés includes seaweed popcorn, fishcake of haddock, nettles and kelp with sweet potato served on a bed of seaweed with carrots and sesame seeds, and a poochie chia pud with coconut, honey, blueberry, almond milk for dessert.
This will all be washed down with a refreshing bowl of beef consomme and finished with a piquant marrow bone for teeth cleaning and “fresh breath” herbal tea tonic to aid digestion.
Canine companions meanwhile will be treated to the kitchen’s “rawsome tasting menu” featuring seven amuse bouche. Treats on offer include paprika kale chips, saurkraut with sesame and ginger dressing on a seaweed raw cracker, and blueberry, chia, chocolate and avocado cheesecake.
The Curious Canine Kitchen is donating 100% of the event’s proceeds to Amazon Cares – a street dogs (and cats) charity.
The event follows a concept launched by London steakhouse “M”, which is pioneering the “BYOD” concept and inviting diners to bring their own dog to brunch.
