Coyote found roaming roof of NY bar
A wild coyote gave New Yorkers a shock after it was found roaming the roof of a bar in Queens.
The bizarre sight caught the attention of stunned locals, who watched on as the animal trotted around the roof of the Long Island City (L.I.C) bar on Monday.
Speaking to the New York Post, bar owner Brian porter quipped: “He didn’t pay his bar tab, so he ran out onto the rooftop. He was well-fed. He wasn’t one of the scrawny coyotes I’ve seen in my time.”
Porter suspects that the predator had been living in a vacant building next door and had jumped through an open window and onto the roof.
A worker from a nearby veterinary clinic climbed up the roof to get a closer look thinking it was a stray dog, but quickly clambered back down when she realised it was a coyote.
Police made attempts to snare the coyote however it evaded capture and is “still at large”.
Bizarrely a band named Coyote Anderson had been billed to play the L.I.C bar the same night.
“You can’t make this up,” Porter said. “You really can’t.”
Coyotes are native to North America and were traditionally found in deserts or on the plains. However, now they have begun colonising urban areas. The NYC Parks Department advises residents against feeding coyotes as they should remain wary of humans.
