The organisers of the 9th International Cool Climate Wine Symposium have announced they will hold an “in-depth” one hour briefing session at this year’s London Wine Fair.

Set to take place on Monday 18th May at 2.30pm in the Industry Briefing Theatre, the talk will focus on the challenges of producing and selling cool climate wines.

Hosted by Justin Howard-Sneyd MW and Dr Jamie Goode, the session plans to give an overview of historical and emerging cool climate wine regions across the world.

It will also explore “why the world wine map is changing and the implications of this continued evolution:, according to organisers.

The briefing will also explore the specific challenges faced by winemakers and those involved in marketing and selling cool climate wines globally.

These challenges will, organisers claim, “be examined in depth” at the International Cool Climate Wine Symposium (ICCWS) in 2016.

Justin Howard-Sneyd MW, commenting on the briefing topic, spoke of the challenges faced by cool climate wines. He said, “With climate change a growing phenomenon, it’s clear that new cool climate areas of production will continue to emerge.

“But there are additional reasons for the growth in new wine regions, such as improved winemaking technologies, viticultural innovations, greater knowledge and research into the use of different grape varieties.”

He continued: “The culture of wine-drinking is spreading to more and more emerging markets and we are seeing more interest in mature markets for sparkling wines and other lighter, lower alcohol wine styles.

“Both of these trends have relevance for the world’s cool climate wine regions and the London Wine Fair briefing gives us a chance to touch on some of these topics as a taster of what is to come at ICCWS 2016.”

ICCWS is exhibiting at the London Wine Fair on stand N14.
