Man shoots friend in Bud vs Busch beer row
A man stands accused of shooting his friend with a shotgun after he brought him the wrong brand of beer.
According to Nola.com, Clarence Sturdivant, 64, shot his 66-year-old neighbour, Walter Merrick, in Harvey, New Orleans, on Saturday, 7 March.
According to a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the shooting followed a row between the friends over which beer was better – Budweiser or Busch.
Merrick told investigators he had left to get a beer for Sturdivant and returned with a can of Busch beer, prompting an angry Sturdivant to declare his preference for Budweiser.
The row over which beer was better ended with Sturdivant shooting Merrick, who was treated for a wound on his elbow and small pellet puncture wounds to his arm and chest.
Sturdivant admitted the men had argued over beer, but claimed it was Merrick who first pointed a gun at him, leading him to fire in self defence.
Authorities found a spent 20-gauge shotgun cartridge in Sturdivant’s truck.
