Cameron gifts “Co-ale-ition” beer to cabinet

To mark the end of the coalition government, British Prime Minister David Cameron gifted his cabinet with bottles of “Co-ale-ition” beer.

As reported by The Telegraph, the 4.5% golden ale is made by Oxford-based craft brewer Wychwood Brewery.

The 500ml beers were gifted to ministers in farewell goody bags that also contained “Coalition Crunch” crisps from Yorkshire. The cabinet’s final session before the general election campaign begins took place yesterday.

Ministers took to Twitter to post pictures of the beer whose front label boasts a cartoon of David Cameron and Nick Clegg waving Union Jacks outside Number 10.

The entire cabinet are pictured on the back label, which reads: “This experimental beer has astonished doubters and exceeded expectations.” According to its makers, the “refreshing” brew boasts notes of “zesty lemon” and “hints of oak”.

The final session of Prime Minister’s Questions takes place today and parliament will officially dissolved on Monday, when Cameron is due to visit the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

This is not the first bespoke beer to do the rounds at Westminster. Last week db reported that foreign secretary William Hague was honoured with a specially made brew to mark his retirement from politics.

Smooth Hague, a 4.4% abv porter-style beer was commissioned by Hague’s local Richmond Conservative Association and made by North Yorkshire Brewery.

Priced at £35 for 12 bottles, the beer is on pour at the House of Commons bars and went on sale at pubs across the northeast of England this week.
