Top Düsseldorf venues for ProWein

With ProWein just around the corner, db has helpfully picked out the best spots in town for attendees to eat, drink, do business or let their hair down.

As everyone who has previously shipped out to Düsseldorf for the annual ProWein event already knows, every year the city has new restaurants, bars and venues on offer.

As such we’ve picked the top places for all manner of situations for attendees to the wine fair – be it for a high-level power lunch, an afternoon of sight-seeing (and trying some local beer), toasting deals, fine dining and, of course, letting loose into the small hours.

Business Lunch – Nagaya, city centre

Home to an elegant mix of Japanese and European cuisine, this Michelin-starred restaurant is one of Düsseldorf’s flagship eateries, and as such is the perfect place to kick off our list.

The Japanese staples of sushi, sashimi and tempura are combined with the quality and craft of European haute cuisine, and delivered using the most cutting-edge cooking techniques.

Over 150 wines are on offer, with a special focus on German produce to complement the food, as well as Champagne and, of course, sake.

Afternoon off – Brauerie Schumacher, city centre

Should any ProWein attendees be able to drag themselves away from the fun of the fair during the day, a tour around Düsseldorf’s oldest brewery is a must-do activity.

Schumacher has its main building in Oststraße and a pub in Bolker Straße. The history of Schumacher “Alt” beer goes back to the year 1838, and “Latzen” beer in particular plays a big part in its history, it being a strong beer by German standards at 5.3 % abv.

This beer is only served every third Thursday in March, September and November, due to the tradition of the brewing masters keeping the best beer for themselves in the past.

Post-deal bubbles – Champagner Galerie & Plaisir, city centre

Any business deal will need to be capped off in style with a glass of Champagne, and this bastion of bubbles is sure to do the trick.

An huge diversity of Champagne cuvées, vintage Champagne, various rosé Champagnes, Blanc de Blancs as well as 27 different Grand Crus are available at the bar and for sale.

“Plaisir” (pleasure) is a hint at the quality of the more than 200 French wines on offer from all the well-known wine-growing areas.

The premises are ideally suitable for all types of events – including high quality appetizer delicacies to pair with your deal-sealing sparkling wine.

 Fine dining – Victorian, city centre

This Michelin-starred gourmet’s paradise is one of Dusseldof’s most highly-regarded restaurants.

It boasts reserved yet elegant decor and contemporary cuisine from the mind of head chef Matthius Hein.

The expansive, 600-label long wine list is presided over by the exuberant Michael Noack, so any and every ProWein attendee will have something to suit their palates.

Advance bookings are highly recommended.

Letting loose – The Attic Club, city centre

And finally, above the rooftops of Düsseldorf, on the sixth floor of a heritage-listed building and below a copper roof is this Düsseldorf jewel in the night – perfect for ProWeiners to let their hair down after a day cutting deals at the fair.

Boasting three different rooms, the design of The Attic’s main floor contains nods to the building’s historic past, and the club contains a special Dom Pérignon Lounge.

The “Meshugge Bar” is the “little sister” within the club. Old school design elements in a contemporary look reflect the foundations of the town.

Immediately below the club area parking is on offer with direct access to the club, and due to the club’s design accommodation for private corporate bookings is made simpler.
