‘Secret’ somm gifts wine to diners

A woman known as the “Secret Somm” has been anonymously gifting free bottles of wine to diners at Bay Area restaurants in San Francisco.

As reported by CBS, the lady, a tech millionaire living in the Tri-Valley,gifted a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to a couple dining at Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Danville last Friday.

CBS reports that the man had lost his job that day and the couple had gone to dinner in a bid to keep their spirits up.

The initiative is in aid of California Restaurant Month, which took place in January, though more free bottles are expected to be given out on Valentine’s Day.

The wines were gifted to select diners every Friday and Saturday night in January at Bay Area restaurants with Livermore Valley wines on their lists.

According to the Visit Tri-Valley visitor’s bureau, the “Secret Somm” is a local resident who made millions in the tech industry and wants to spread good will.

She tweets hints about where she will pop-up on Friday and Saturday nights via the @SecretSommCA handle, with 50 bottles worth over $2,000 gifted thus far.

Among the restaurants taking part in the initiative are Lokanta, Cellar Door, Posada, Primavera and The Forge.
