Opus One wine sends judge to sleep

California winery Opus One is “delighted” to be the maker of the wine enjoyed by US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which caused her fall asleep during Barack Obama’s recent State of the Union address.

The winery was reportedly “overjoyed” to find out that Ginsburg enjoyed the wine.

“We were delighted to learn we were included in such an important meal. It’s a great feeling. It seems like she enjoyed the wine, and we’re glad,” said Christopher Barefoot, vice president of public relations for Opus One. “I’m sure we’ve been served at many prominent dinners,” he added.

Ginsburg admitted that she wasn’t “100% sober” when she nodded off during Obamas speech last month, revealing that her soporific state was caused by a bottle of “very fine California” wine enjoyed at dinner with her colleague Anthony Kennedy.

“I wasn’t 100% sober because before we went to the State of the Union we had dinner. The dinner was so delicious, it needed wine to accompany it,” Ginsberg said according to CBS.

Apparently unaware of the famous Californian winery, started as a joint venture between the late Robert Mondavi and the late Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the 81-year-old judge referred to the wine as “an Opus something or other”.
