Ivy auctions off Tom Cruise shaker

Renowned celebrity hangout The Ivy is to auction off a selection of artwork and memorabilia, including a cocktail shaker used to serve Tom Cruise.

A popular haunt for actors, authors, politicians and socialites alike, the iconic London restaurant currently closed for refurbishment. Its owner, Richard Caring, is therefore taking the opportunity to sell off much of its inventory, including a number of items used to serve A-listers such as Tom Cruise and David Beckham.

Items up for sale include cocktail mixers that have served David Beckham and Tom Cruise, ivory leaf-engraved bar glasses, Sir Peter Blake’s £5,000 Marilyn Monroe wall collage and the £1,500 front door.

Owner Richard Caring said: “I want the legend of The Ivy to live on, and now that we are making some contemporary amendments I thought it would be a good opportunity to offer people the chance to own some of its history. I‘ve often had people tell me that they wish they could buy some of our pieces and furniture and now they can.”

Re-designed in the early 1990s by architect M.J. Long, the restaurant’s interior boasted works by leading artists of the Post-War period including Bridget Riley, Allen Jones, Howard Hodgkin, Peter Blake and Joe Tilson, which are being offered alongside iconic memorabilia such as its doormat and cutlery.

The Made in Britain auction will be held at Sotheby’s on March 25 with all proceeds raised going toward Child Bereavement UK. The newly refurbished Ivy will open in May.
