Wines from Spain moves to Tobacco Dock
The 26th annual Wines from Spain tasting has moved home and will take place this year at Tobacco Dock in Wapping on Thursday 26 February.
Over 50 importers and 20 exporters seeking UK distribution will present their Spanish wine ranges at the tasting, which opens to press at 9:30am.
Showcasing Spain’s dizzying diversity and impressive array of native grapes, from Albariño to Xarel.lo, over 1,300 wines from 69 DOs will be on pour.
Sarah Jane Evans will host a tasting on Godellos from Valdeorras
There will also be a self-pour tasting throughout the day focusing on Spain’s lesser-known but promising indigenous varieties such as Callet and Treixadura.
New this year will be a Sherry and food matching masterclass at 2pm hosted by Beltrán Domecq, president of the Jerez consejo regulador.
During the masterclass, Domecq, author of Sherry Uncovered, will present a selection of dry and sweet Sherries paired with simple food matches.
Meanwhile, at 4pm Spanish wine expert Sarah Jane Evans MW will host a tutored tasting of Godellos from Valdeorras – the gateway to Galicia.
Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis on the day 15 minutes before the start of each session.
To keep tasters well fuelled, TV chef José Pizarro will bring a pop-up version of his popular Bermondsey Street tapas bar, José, to Tobacco Dock, which will serve regional Spanish dishes alongside a selection of Spanish reds, whites and rosés.
