Rhône unveils UK plans for 2015
Côtes du Rhône Wines has launched its 2015 UK marketing programme to build on the region’s “Think Red, Think Côtes du Rhône” campaign.
The first activity will take the form of an online “ambassador-led” tasting on 16 February. This will be followed by the region’s annual “Trade Day” in early April, which offers the drinks trade and press an update on how the Rhône is performing within the wider context of the UK market.
This UK activity will be complemented by a wider presence from Côtes du Rhône Wines at major trade fairs, including Millésime Bio, Prowein and Vinexpo Bordeaux. The generic body will also host a series of “relevant seasonal sampling opportunities” during the year.
A priority market for Rhône wines, the UK currently represents 21% of total Côte du Rhône exports, a figure that rises to 30% for the region’s village appellation wines.
News of this activity comes after Côtes du Rhône Wines was ordered by French court to amend its new advertisement for the domestic market on the grounds that it contravened a law prohibiting the promotion of any link between alcohol and happiness.
