Pub sent gas bill for HRH Prince Charles
The owners of a pub named the Prince of Wales were left bemused after receiving a gas bill for £1,773.30 addressed to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.

The unpaid bill demand from British Gas, addressed to “HRH Prince Charles”, was delivered to the Prince of Wales pub in Broxted, near Stansted airport, much to the confusion of its landlords, Karen Rand and Terry Gaskin, as reported by the BBC.
Gaskin said the pub wasn’t even on gas mains and didn’t have an electricity account with the energy supplier.
The letter opens with “Your Royal Highness” and goes on to say that the company has contacted the “Prince of Wales” a number of times over an unpaid gas bill of £1,700 and that the matter had now been referred to debt collection company PRA.
British Gas confirmed that neither the Prince Charles nor the pub were intended to receive the letter.
A British Gas spokeswoman said: “His Royal Highness can rest assured that he was not the intended recipient of this letter. We’re looking into how the error occurred so that it can be resolved. We’ve also tried to contact Mr Gaskin today in order to explain the situation and put his mind at rest.”
