Politicians expelled over wine laxative prank
Two members of the French National Front have been expelled over accusations that they spiked one of their vice-president’s wine with a laxative.
Louis Aliot, vice-president of the French National Front
The pair allegedly snuck laxatives into wine served to Louis Aliot, one of the party’s vice-presidents, at a press conference held in May by Mr Aliot amid an ongoing dispute on gay marriage, according to reports by The Telegraph.
Jean-David Eyquem and Jean-Baptiste Defrance have been permanently banned from the group while Damien Obrador, a councillor for the town of Cabanac-et-Villagrains, near Bordeaux, was suspended for a year.
Rising tensions in the party over same-sex marriage are believed to have sparked the “pranks” between members, which Bruno Gollnisch, the Front’s former deputy leader, told French newspaper Metronews were in “bad taste”.
Mr Aliot has not commented on the expulsions, but confirmed that the wine had been tampered with.
