Family die in helicopter crash
Five people, including three members of the family that owns one of world’s bestselling cachaça brands, have died in a helicopter crash.
The crash happened outside of São Paulo on December 27, according to reports by English CRI.
Marcelo Muller, the 33-year-old grandson of the founder of Companhia Müller de Bebidas, or Muller Beverage Company, died along with his 31-year-old wife, Lumara Rocha Passos Muller, their two-year-old daughter Georgia, her nanny, who has yet to be identified, and the pilot of the helicopter, Thiago Yamamoto.
It is believed the copter was travelling to a hospital in São Paulo. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
The Companhia Müller de Bebidas produces the brand Caninha 51 or Cachaça 51, a spirit used to make the Caipirinha cocktail.
The spirit is exported to more than 50 countries including the US, Japan and European markets and sold 17.6 million cases in 2013.
Companhia Müller de Bebidas is yet to comment.
