‘Astounding’ Burgundies lead HDH auction

Auction house Hart Davis Hart’s season will begin with a two-day long sale in Chicago featuring an “astounding range” of fine wines and whiskies.

Taking place on 13 and 14 February, as always in Chicago’s TRU restaurant, the sale will feature nearly 2,000 lots and is valued between US$3-$5 million.

From Bordeaux there will be over 700 lots from almost 100 of the region’s very best estates and with vintages dating back to 1929.

Burgundy lovers meanwhile will “delight” in the array of producers from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Roumier, Rousseau, Leroy, Liger-Belair and Drouhin, which are expected to make over $1m in sales.

Champagne from 1996-2002, Rhône “legends”, Italian “gems”, an “exciting” array of Bourbon and Scotch and an “impressive” selection of Napa wines such as Harlan and Sine Qua Non will also be available.

Highlights include: a 12-pack of 2006 La Romanée from Liger-Belair ($12,000-$18,000), a six  magnum vertical of Harlan from 2005-2010 (no 2009 but two magnums of the 2005 – $4,800-$7,000), 12 bottles of 1983 Côte Rôtie, Côte Brune, Cuvée Reservée, Marius Gentaz-Dervieux ($15,000-22,000), 12 bottles of 2002 Bonnes-Mares, Georges Roumier ($12,000-18,000), a case of 1998 Barolo Riserva, Monfortino, Giacomo Conterno ($4,500-6,500) and an imperial of 2005 Pétrus ($32,000-$48,000).
