The Glenlivet presents £6k whisky chair
The Glenlivet has collaborated with contemporary furniture designer Gareth Neal to create a £6,000 “Nàdurra Dram Chair”, designed with sipping whisky in mind.
Inspired by its Nàdurra whisky, the chair has been constructed from an oak, copper and leather by Gareth Neal, a London-based furniture maker who crafts pieces by hand using wood and other locally-sourced natural materials.
“With a unique style rooted in exploring and reinterpreting traditions, Neal was the perfect fit for The Glenlivet. He has imaginatively reinterpreted the 19th century techniques and materials used in the Nàdurra production process, bringing them to life in a contemporary chair, which is equally at home in the great outdoors as in a city apartment,” said a spokesperson for The Glenlivet.
Neal belongs to The New Craftsmen – a collective of Britain’s finest craft makers that champions high end, contemporary crafts. His work has previously been exhibited at international galleries including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, to the Museum of Art & Design in New York.
Of his inspiration behind the chair, Neal said: “Enjoying a dram is a moment of escapism. I wanted to immerse the sitter in the materials that have brought about this moment of pleasure, in absolute comfort.”
