Muscadet undergoing a ‘renaissance’
Loire Valley Wines has released an infographic to encourage more people to drink Muscadet – a style of wine Jancis Robinson MW has said we should all be drinking.
Produced in France’s Loire Valley, Muscadet is made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne, often referred to simply as Melon, and is produced exclusively in the Nantais appellation. According to Loire Valley Wines Muscadet is undergoing a “renaissance”, a trend backed up by Jancis Robinson MW and Fiona Beckett who have both written in support of the white wine.
Designed to illustrate the variety’s key facts in a “clear and creative manner”, this Muscadet infographic offers a “fresh, modern and educational visual” that Loire Valley Wines hopes will effectively convey the appellation’s “spirit and values.”
Muscadet is typically aged on its lees giving it notes of yeast and toast, while the Melon de Bourgogne grape gives Muscadet notes of citrus and sea salt making it suitable for serving with fish, seafood and pork.
