Magnum sales up 122% at Waitrose
Sales of magnums are up 122% at Waitrose with consumers splashing out on larger bottles in the run up to Christmas.

As reported by the Daily Mail, wine lovers are seeking out larger format bottles in a bid to impress their guests with the theatricality of the pour.
Waitrose now stocks 17 wines in magnum and reports that year on year sales of Château Pey de la Tour in magnum, priced at £35 a bottle, are up by 230%. Sales of six-litre Methuselah’s are also on the rise in supermarkets.
‘We’ve seen a real increase in customers buying magnums in the run up to Christmas,” Waitrose’ Champagne buyer Ken Mackay told the paper.
“Whether bought as a gift or shared with party guests, they’re a fun centrepiece and add the wow factor to any festive gathering,” he added.
Waitrose also sells a Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Champagne in magnum for £255 and Grey Goose Vodka in the 1.5-litre size for £120.
Sainsbury’s has also seen a spike in sales of magnums, offering the likes of Moët & Chandon Brut Non-Vintage Champagne for £68.
Capitalising on the ongoing Prosecco boom in the UK, Tesco has expanded its range in magnum and Methuselah at its stores.
