Wine merchant Philglas & Swiggot sold

London-based independent wine merchant Philglas & Swiggot has been acquired by a group of investors in the wine trade including Justin Knock MW.

Other partners in the business include Damien Jackman of the One Hundred Wine Group, Charles Harman, co-owner of famed South African estate Klein Constantia, and Gareth Penny of Penhill Estate in South Africa.

Prior to their wine ventures, Harman and Penny have run the likes of the venture capital company BXR Partners and diamond firm De Beers.

Philglas & Swiggot currently has three London sites in Battersea, Richmond and Marylebone. Its name will not be changed following the acquisition.

Knock will continue his work as a winemaking consultant for Encirc in addition to his new role at the merchant.

The investors bought the business from owners Karen and Mike Rogers who founded the company in 1991.
