‘Indestructible’ wine suitcase launched

A “virtually indestructible” suitcase has gone on sale that helps wine lovers bring their beloved bottles home from their travels.

Costing £150, the VinGardeValise is a rolling hard shell suitcase lined with high-density, temperature-regulating foam that protects bottles while in transit.

It weighs around 20kg when packed with a dozen 75cl bottles, making it under the limit for a checked bag with airlines like Air France, British Airways, KLM and Alitalia.

If you only want to take a couple of bottles home, the remaining foam can be removed from the 45 x 30 x 66cm case to make room for other travel essentials.

The foam cavities are designed to hold an array of different bottle shapes from Bordeaux and Burgundy, to Champagne and Riesling bottles.

Created by wine accessory designer Barry Wax, the VinGardeValise took three years to develop. Special foam inserts for magnums can be purchased for the case for £18.

You give the price in GBP… so where can we buy it in UK?

Llooks like a great product, but it is Vingardevalise, not Vingaurdvalise, or Vingaurdevalise, the two incorrect spellings in the article. I googled it and the correct spelling came up and I continued to their website, not mentioned or linked in the article.

Couldn’t find this being available in the UK. I was however, able to find the Wine Check at Lazenne, which is more or less a similar concept anyway: http://www.lazenne.com/products/the-wine-check Has anyone used it before?

Ive just seen the product and it’s no kidding the worst bag I’ve ever seen to carry wine in…would not trust a cheap bottle in it!

I just came back with the Wine Check from Nappa Valley to New York. It’s widely available all over the U.S. It uses standard polystyrene wine shippers that are used by most wineries and wine stores here, so not sure what’s so untrustworthy about it. In any case, it worked great for me with damage to the wine or the bag. I like the fact that it’s foldable when the insert is removed, and that you can get the shipper at destination. Have not tried the Vingardevalise, but interesting concept.

I just returned from a month in France and used the Wine Check to transport my wines back on the train and then to Heathrow. The weak strap was a nightmare and the case kept banging into my ankles and also twisted and turned.

I could never get a proper grip on it to walk comfortably for my trip from Paris to my last night’s hotel in London Heathrow via the Eurostar. It was certainly not fun getting it on and off trains. In my other hand was my large 4-wheeled suitcase that moved very easily.

he VinGardeValise would have been a perfect 4-wheeled device for the other hand and would have made my trip back much easier. Unfortunately, it wasn’t yet available when I purchased the Wine Check in early September.

The Wine Check is fine for the car, but the strap is less than adequate. They really need a telescopic handle, although they are concerned about the additional weight. I would have preferred a bag that was easy to manouever. I will be purchasing a VinGardeRelease for my next wine trip that involves plane and train travel. The Wine Check, for me, is just good for auto transport.

Wine heck is much cheaper (75$) and requires a standard shipping box be inserted inside. It works great!

Hi. Andrew, are you talking about Lazenne or the VinGarde Valise? The Lazenne is just a canvas that covers a wine shipper while this product is an actual suitcase. We have used this product on multiple trips and there has never been an issue with any wine. It is extremely well made. I have reviewed this product at http://bit.ly/vingardereview.

Interesting concept when you need to associate clothes and bottles of wines in your suitcase. Personaly, I used the transbottle globetrotter (www.transbottle.com), bought for less than £60.

I will look for it in London but my pressing need is a wineglass suitcase as I have to drag 12 of my wineglass wares! Does anyone know such product?

The VinGardeValise is an indestructible wine carrying case that weighs less than 50 pounds fully packed, which gives no issues with having to pay extra for your checked luggage. It also has inserts to carry your wine glasses, extra large wine or champagne bottles and also your belongings. The inserts are removable so you can take an insert out and put your shirts, shoes, toiletries, etc. There are videos on YouTube showing how to use this and tests that were done. Their website is vingardevalise.com.
