Wine Car Boot heads to east London

Peripatetic wine fair, Wine Car Boot, is to pop up in Old Spitalfields Market in east London on Friday 28 November.

Run by former fashion model Ruth Spivey, among the 16 independent wine merchants showing their wares will be Berry Bros & Rudd, Lea & Sandeman, The Sampler, Roberson, Borough Wines, Vagabond and Vinoteca.

In addition, the capital’s first urban winery, London Cru in Earl’s Court, will be pouring wines from its first vintage, crafted by chief winemaker Gavin Monery, from a forklift.

Exhibiting for first time at Wine Care Boot are Passione Vino, Winemakers Club, Handford Wines and Spitalfields locals Bedales and Uncorked.

The event will run over two sessions, with the first leg running from 2-6pm and the session session from 6-10pm.

Each of the 16 participating merchants will be showcasing five wines available to sample, enjoy by the glass and buy to take home.

Tickets cost £10 and include five sample tastes, a wine bottle carrier and a Govino tasting glass.

In addition to the array of restaurants within Old Spitalfields Market, BOB’s Lobster van will be serving lobster rolls, crab rolls and lobster mac ‘n’ cheese.

Wine Car Boot was launched by Spivey last August with the inaugural sale taking place at Netil Market in Hackney.

“I wanted to create a tasting that was different to anything else out there, something fun and accessible for the public, where wine is mixed with street food and music,” Spivey told db when launching the event last year.

“My mission is to get people out of the supermarket by giving them access to quirky and interesting wines they might not usually try,” she added.

The last Wine Car Boot sale took place this summer in Granary Square, King’s Cross.
