Week in pictures: Hong Kong

Justerini & Brooks held its portfolio tasting for private clients at Azure last week, rubbing shoulders with some of Hong Kong’s top collectors, db tasted through a number of excellent wines, including this delicious Gevrey-Chambertin (below) and spoke with managing director, Chadwick Delaney, about the market in South-East Asia.

Stonier’s head winemaker, Mike Symons, was in town to conduct the annual Stonier International Pinot Noir Tasting (SIPNOT) in Hong Kong for the first time.

Jean-Charles Abbatucci was in town to introduce the wines from his family’s estate in Corsica. His ancestors were friends of the Bonaparte family and have made wine since the 15th century.

The HKTDC Wine and Spirits Fair was the main feature of last week. Indian wines from Sula were among the many on offer at the three-day event.

Dr Hon. Lo Wai Kwok, chairman of the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency, David Wong, deputy secretary for Commerce and Economic Development and Dr Michael Lam, CEO of the HKQAA officiated the kick-off ceremony of the Hong Kong Wine Registration Label.

The little label has a unique QR code that is created for each wine registered.

Out and about celebrating the end of the fair, db was happy to spot its sister magazine The Spirits Business in one of LKF’s numerous bars.

The eagle-eyed (and lucky) sister of db‘s Hong Kong publisher, Ivy Ng, was clearly quick to recover from her surprise at seeing football-super-star, David Beckham walking down the street towards her this afternoon (10 November). Maybe he’s in town to promote his new whisky which is available in Singapore travel retail?
