Pol Roger creates 2002 collection

Champagne Pol Roger has chosen the highly acclaimed 2002 vintage to launch a collection of three expressions from this year.

Just 100 cases have been released of the Pol Roger Vintage 2002 Collection, which features two bottles each of the house’s blanc de blancs 2002, brut vintage 2002 and rosé 2002.

Housed in an oak case, the bottles are accompanied by a copy of the Pol Roger family tree signed by fifth generation family member Hubert de Billy as a symbol of the house’s “fiercely independent” status.

Describing 2002 as a “vintage characterised by remarkable levels of ripeness and a good level of acidity,” Pol Roger produced its blanc de blancs from grand cru sites in the Côte des Blancs.

Its brut vintage and rosé both follow the house’s traditional vintage blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, drawn from 20 grand cru and premier cru sites across the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs. For the rosé, 13% of this Pinot Noir is first vinified as red wine and then added to the blend before the second fermentation in order, explained the house, “to obtain its delicate colour and subtle nose”.

The Pol Roger Vintage 2002 Collection is available in the UK with an RRP of £800 from Harvey Nichols, Hedonism, Berry Bros & Rudd and Armit Wines.
