Maison Sichel signs deal with Amazon
Maison Sichel’s flagship brand, Sirius Red AOC Bordeaux, is now available to buy on Amazon.
The exclusive distribution agreement between the Bordeaux-based producer and the online retailer is for five wines, but will focus on its Sirius 2011 Red.
First released in 1987, Sirius was the brainchild of Peter Sichel who applied the same methods used for making the Grands Crus Classés of Bordeaux to less prestigious terroirs to make a more affordable wine.
Charles Sichel, export director for Maison Sichel, said: “Sirius broke the mould back in the late 80s and Amazon is doing new things in wine retailing so there is a parallel.
“Wine is a relatively new departure for Amazon and it’s interesting for Sichel to be working with them at this stage. The distribution channel seems perfect for the brand. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works. I certainly want Sirius to be brought to a wider consumer market in the UK.”
Sirius will continue to be distributed by Fells in the on-trade, while Sirius 2011 Red will be available to Amazon customers at £9.49 per bottle in a case of 3.
