Christie’s HK sale makes HK$36m

Christie’s latest fine wine sale in Hong Kong made in excess of HK$36 million, driven by perennial auction favourite DRC and exceptionally old and rare Yquem.

A 12-bottle case of 1988 Romanée-Conti from the famous Burgundy estate was the top lot, making $1.5m and was just one of seven lots of DRC in the top 10 list alongside six-packs of 1996, 2003 and 2002, a Jeroboam of 1990 La Tâche and assortments of 1999, 1995 and 1996.

Also present in the top 10 was a case of 1982 Pétrus which made $404,250, six bottles of Jayer’s 1971 Richebourg for $551,250 and a 10 bottle vertical of Yquem spanning 1900-1909 which realised $294,000.

Simon Tam, vice-president of Christie’s Asia and head of Christie’s China Wine Department, China, said: “Bidders showed keen interest for the prime single owner collection from world renowned German Master Chef, Mr Jörg Müller.

“His lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, kept in perfect condition, achieved top prices as wine lovers recognized their scarcity. Collectors seeking the rarest and highest quality vintages bid strongly on the extensive range of Château d’Yquem offered by Rio All-Suites Hotel of Las Vegas that date back three centuries to 1855.
