Winemakers bare all for saucy calendar

A bunch of young winemakers have again taken part in a raunchy calendar with the aim of presenting the wine industry as “sexy and modern.”

The models with Ellen Ledermüller at a gala event to launch the 2015 calendar in Vienna.

For the past 12 years Dr Ellen Ledermüller has been calling upon young Austrian winemakers, along with their sisters and daughters, to pose for a saucy calendar.

This year the models were picked from three wineries in Burgenland, six from the northeast, two from Styria and one in Vienna – regions where they have “good wine, but not much wine”, according to Ledermüller.

Dr Ledermüller said: “The calendar presents the wine industry in a sexy-modern way through the girls from lower Austria, Styria, Burgenland and Vienna – great wine regions.”

The Austrians are not the only ones to have decided to bare all after another year’s harvest. A brave bunch of pickers at Domaine Marcel Lapierre in Beaujolais recently stripped off during the harvest to pose for a calendar printed by the estate.

Monochrome pictures of girls in bikinis – what could be more modern?! Tsk tsk…

Pretty women (or men) professionally photographed in the best of taste does not deserve the term “raunchy.” Please leave your misguided prurience at home. The wine industry must present itself as fun, fashionable and pertinent if it is to prosper. Shame on you for poor judgement and worse journalism.
