Who are France’s biggest wine drinkers?

Following France’s return to the top of the table for global wine production, a media company has released regional wine consumption figures from across France.

According to the figures released by Bonial and based on a percentage of the population who drink at least once a week, producing wine doesn’t necessarily mean consuming wines.

The Pays de la Loire does lead with 43.5% of its population consuming wine each week but other key wine producing regions such as Aquitaine, where Bordeaux is located, with 38.3% and Provence with 38.2% sit around mid-table and Champagne fares even worse with only 31.6%, leaving the worlds top sparkling producer third from bottom.

But overall the French remain one of the biggest wine consuming countries in the world.
