Uncorked: Jancis Robinson MW

Prolific author and FT columnist, Jancis Robinson MW became the first wine writer to receive an OBE in 2003 alongside David Beckham. She is currently revising a new, 4th edition of the Oxford Companion to Wine.

What Vintage are you? 

1950

What bottle sparked your love of wine?

Chambolle Musigny, Les Amoureuses 1959 – I think it must have been de Vogüé

Ambition or talent – what matters more?

Talent is the nicer one to have; ambition is probably the more effective

What would you be as a wine?

 A delicate, subtle red Burgundy?

 

Where are you happiest?

 En route to a holiday with my family

What’s your greatest vice?

Biting my nails

Best advice you ever got?

Don’t think about the cost when opening one of your special bottles (from Edmund Penning-Rowsell)

Your cellar’s underwater, which bottle would you dive in and save?

I think there’s a bottle of Petrus 82 in there…

What’s the best & worst thing about the wine business?

The people.

Riesling, of course.

Lots of good, well-aged Champagne
