New Michelin stars for HK and Macau

The new Michelin guide for Hong Kong and Macau has seen over 60 restaurants gain stars either for the first time or have their previous ratings confirmed or updated.

Three restaurants in Hong Kong have been up-graded to two-star ratings, 11 received their first star and another five have retained their coveted three star recommendations.

Two of the new two-star venues, Yan Toh Heen and Duddell’s are principally Cantonese, while the third, The Principal, is contemporary Western in style.

New recipients included Seasons and Akrame Hong Kong, both only months old.

“I am thrilled and honoured to earn my first Michelin star in Asia. My passion has always been to introduce unique flavour pairings and sensations to my diners, which creates exciting food memories,” said Akrame Benallal, chef and founder of Akrame HK.

“Hong Kong is a dynamic city that is very invested in the culinary scene, so it means a lot to be recognized by diners and critics alike; and also to be in the company of talented, creative chefs.”

meanwhile, Amber at The Landmark Oriental was an example of a restaurant that had its two-star rating confirmed – for the seventh consecutive year in its case.

Culinary director, Richard Ekkebus, said: “My team and I are delighted that our consistently exceptional standard of food quality and service excellence have been recognised by the Hong Kong & Macau Michelin guide for seven consecutive years.

“Such acclaim could not have been possible without the support of our loyal guests and the high level of professionalism of the entire Amber team.”

Alongside the Michelin-starred venues, another 65 restaurants were granted “Bib Gourmands”, recognition for excellence at moderate prices.

Eleven Macau restaurants were also given stars.
