Landlord opens UK’s first iPad-operated pub

The UK’s first self-service “iPub”, where bar staff have been swapped for iPads, has opened in Wales.

Instead of elbowing your way to the front of a crowded bar, patrons at The Westbourne Pub in Swansea can pour their own pints using a high-tech iPad ordering system, as reported by Wales Online.

To use the system customers must purchase a special card which can be placed under a sensors near one of three iPads which will grant them the ability to pour a pint or half-pint from the pumps themselves.

Customers can even order bar snacks through the tablets and have any drink delivered to the table.

Landlord Mark Lingwood has spent £20,000 setting up his iPub, with the backing of Swansea Council’s licensing department.

Speaking to Wales Online Lingwood said: “It’s something I have looked at for a long time, it’s a great, fun idea.
“Why queue at the bar when you can use our table top iPads?”

The pub currently only has Sagres and Amstel beers available on its self-service taps.
