With the MTR too crowded for Rupert Millar’s liking last Friday, he took the leisurely option to walk to work instead, a route that took him through Occupy Central as usual.

The view this morning, a more notable police presence on Gloucester Road than at any point since the protests began some two weeks ago. Police are currently dismantling some barricades though the standoff continues in other areas.

Concha y Toro’s head winemaker for Don Melchor, Enrique Tirado and Ned Goodwin MW were in town to hold a parcel tasting and blending class at The Conrad hotel last week.

Rupert was taking studious notes, of course.

After the Don Melchor tasting it was a hop, skip and a jump to the JW Marriott for ASC’s portfolio tasting…

…where Ornellaia’s 2011 vintage and other treats such as 2004 Vega Sicilia were also on offer.

Japser Morris MW, has blown into town to talk Burgundy – as usual – at Amuse Bouche and also to stock up with cleft sticks and a collapsible canoe before he flies into darkest Ningxia for a trip around the wine world’s newest region – look out for a future news story on how he gets on.

Meanwhile, looking for a new book Rupert was amused to find this example of linguistic confusion.
