Asda recalls exploding Prosecco bottles
A UK supermarket has been forced to recall thousands of bottles of Prosecco after a “small number” shattered.
Asda has asked customers to return any affected bottles of its Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry for a full refund.
As a precaution, Asda has pulled affected batches of its own-label Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry from the shelves after several bottles exploded on shelves, and two customers reported corks flying off of bottles.
An Asda spokesperson said: “It’s a small percentage of bottles that are affected but at this stage we don’t know what has caused the problem. The product is still on sale but no other lot code is affected. As a precaution Asda is recalling one particular batch due to a small number of bottles shattering.”
The retailer is now asking consumers to bring back any affected bottles of the £5.48 fizz for a full refund.
A statement said: “If you have purchased the Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry, please take it back to your local Asda for a full refund. No receipt necessary. If you know someone else who has one, please ask them to return it to us. To help identify the product that needs to be recalled, there is a Lot Code on the back label (see above picture) of the product that will include one of the following codes: L1402606, L1403271, L1403503, L1403655, L1404044 – only products with these Lot Codes are affected. No other lot code or pack size is affected.”
