Starbucks tests beer-flavoured latte
Coffee giant Starbucks is developing a non-alcoholic latte that tastes like Guinness.
The Dark Barrel Latte comes topped with whipped cream and dark caramel sauce and has been designed with the intention of invoking the flavours of a dark Irish Stout.
The recipe is currently being tested at select locations in Ohio and Florida and could be added to Starbucks’ line up if successful, joining the ranks of its already established flavoured lattes including its popular “pumpkin spice” latte.
An internal memo detailing the recipe for the drink, said to be “inspired by the rise of craft beers”, was posted by one staff member on Reddit in which the coffee chain describes its latest creation as having a “chocolaty stout flavoured sauce”.
Other flavours currently being tested by the chain include the Cherries Jubilee Mocha and the Chestnut Praline Latte.
A Buzzfeed writer who has already sampled the drink said “it does taste remarkably like stout”.
The jury is out.
