Indian wines sell out in Slovenia
The entire stock of Indian wine sold out at the Vino Ljubljana 2014 International Wine Fair in Slovenia this week – a strong debut for the region’s winemakers.
Speaking to NDTV the Italian wine importer behind the Indian presence at the fair, Paolo Perilo, of Milan based Twiner SRL, said his entire stock of wine from the sub-continent ran out even before the end.
“My stock of Indian wines was completely exhausted well before the closing time of the Expo on Saturday and the stall had to be shut down by early evening,” said Paolo of the strong debut.
Twiner SRL had offered selected wines from Fratelli Wines and Sula Vineyards.
The Italian importer said he would now explore expansion possibilities in the region and build on the exposure through hotel and supermarkets.
A stockist for Slovenia who can deliver Indian wines throughout the country has already been appointed, he said.
Perilo said he would also explore the possibility of local bottling of bulk imports to reduce unit retail costs and make the wines competitive in the European Union market.
To provide visitors a full Indian experience, wines were offered along with selected Indian dishes at Vino Ljubljana, the 50th edition of the International Wine Fair held in the Slovenian capital last week.
