HK’s Riesling Weeks winners revealed
Wines of Germany has announced the winners of its Hong Kong Riesling Weeks competition from across the on- and off-trades.
The competition was held during the month of Riesling celebration in the city, part of Wines of Germany’s worldwide marketing drive to promote Riesling.
The campaign was well supported with over 70 outlets participating, a 30% increase on last year, with outlets offering pairing menus, Riesling by the glass, tastings, promotional offers and cooking workshops.
All participants apparently reported an increase in Riesling sales between 10% and 100% compared to the previous trading month, with customers in the on-trade, particularly Asian/Chinese restaurants, giving the most positive feedback.
The KO Dining Group (who run Kazuo Okada, Messina Il Ristorante and Yu Lei) won the overall prize and the chance to send a sommelier to Germany on next year’s Sommelier Spring Trip.
Second place went to wine club Kylix, which will get a one page advertorial in Marie Claire, while Yung Kee restaurant in Central took third place and a Vintec Classic series fridge to hold over 100 wine bottles.
Other prize winners were Abbelio Wines, city-super, Mango Tree restaurant, MGM Macau hotel group, Scmidt Vinothek, Summergate and Yui Kee Wine Club.
Individual winners of the Best Run Campaign Award, Photo Contest and OpenRice QR Game, will be announced at the HKTDC fair this November.
