HK protest in pictures
Protesters calling for democracy in Hong Kong have taken up positions in Admiralty, Causeway Bay and Mongkok, cutting off some Hong Kong’s main arterial roads to traffic and leaving large swathes of the city eerily quiet.
Passing by the Admiralty protest site on his way to work each morning, here are a few pictures snapped by Rupert Millar from the two days of sit-in protest so far.
Arriving on Monday morning, the area around Admiralty station on Gloucester Road was a scene of some confusion.
A bus that had evidently been stopped during the protests on Sunday night was still there and had formed part of a barricade.
By the evening, the number of people gathering by Admiralty was growing again.
Crossing over to Queensway, the scene was somewhat different, with occasional makeshift barricades blocking the way.
On Tuesday morning the protesters were still in place…
…as was the bus which has been converted into a first aid post.
The protesters have piled up supplies in preparation of a long stay.
News crews were also on-site this morning as the protest continue to make headlines around the world.
