Greenall’s joins flavoured gin push
UK gin distiller Greenall’s has introduced the first new additions to its range for more than 250 years.
Greenall’s Wild Berry and Greenall’s Sloe Gin follow moves by a number of other gin brands to build on the category’s success by expanding into flavoured expressions.
This year alone has seen Gordon’s add an elderflower variant alongside the cucumber flavour it introduced in 2013, while Northamptonshire distiller Warner Edwards launched a rhubarb gin last month and German gin brand Ferdinand’s has brought its Riesling infused expression to the UK.
Designed to add a wintery twist to the traditional gin and tonic or to be drunk neat, Greenall’s Sloe Gin combines the blackthorn berry flavour with eight other botanicals, including juniper and citrus.
Meanwhile the Wild Berry variant takes its inspiration from English hedgerows with a blend of blackberries and raspberries. Almost colourless, it is targeted at the cocktail market.
Introducing these new additions to the brand’s portfolio, Greenall’s Sinead O’Frighil commented: “We are extremely proud of our best-selling gin which is the No.2 standard gin in the UK, and are delighted that after 250 years we have introduced two new additions to the Greenall’s Gin family.”
She also highlighted the packaging for the duo, explaining: “We have incorporated the original Greenall’s contemporary and vibrant British-inspired design to the new bottles and look forward to introducing Greenall’s Sloe Gin and Greenall’s Wild Berry to a new generation of gin lovers.”
Both expressions are available from October in a number of UK multiple retailers. The Sloe Gin carries an RRP of £16 per 70cl bottle and an abv of 26%. The Wild Berry has an RRP of £15.50 per 70cl bottle and an abv of 37.5%.
