Beers brewed for Nato world leaders
Welsh brewery Brains toasted the Nato Summit, which was held in Newport at the weekend, with three beers named after world leaders in attendance.
Obeerma, Merkale and Beer Cam – tounge-in-cheek renderings of the names of the US, German and UK leaders – were created to be served at a Nato drinks reception for the world’s media at Tredegar House last week.
The limited edition IPA Obeerma was the strongest of the three at 6% abv, while Beer Cam and Merkale come in at 4.2% and 4.3% respectively.
Bruce Newman, head of marketing at Brains, said: “It’s not very often you get 67 heads of state and government descend on Wales so it’s great to be able to showcase our brewing credentials to a global audience.
“We’re delighted to welcome Barack, Angela and Dave to Newport and Cardiff. And, if they can find the time, we’d love for them to join us at the brewery to sample one of their beers.”
The beers were exclusive only to the Tredegar House event – but a limited number of beers are being given away on the brewery’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
