Waiter breaks beer-carrying record
The world record for the number of beer-filled mass carried by one waiter has been broken in Germany.
Oliver Struempfel from the Bavarian town of Abensberg successfully carried 27 litre mugs of beer a distance of 40 metres (13 feet) at the town’s Gillemoos beer festival.
Struempfel took on the challenge after under-going “months of training”, according to the BBC. His previous personal best was 26 mass and he said afterwards that going to the gym was essential as the total weight of that much glass and beer is more than 60 kilograms as each mug weighs 2.3kg when full.
Struempfel was up against one competitor at the festival who managed 26 until the eventual winner managed to add just one more mass to clinch the title.
Struempfel admitted that in practice he’d dropped many a (water-filled) mug but suffered no such catastrophe on the night, unlike this unlucky waiter who attempted the feat back in 2012 at Oktoberfest.
