Cognac lines up rare gems for charity
Cognac’s annual “La Part Des Anges” charity auction, which features rare, highly collectible expressions, will open to online bidders for the first time this year.
Hennessy’s Coupe No 1, expected to be the top lot in this year’s auction
Organised by the Bureau Interprofessionnel Du Cognac (BNIC) since 2006, the 2014 event will take place on 18 September at the 11th century Bassac Abbey. All profits from the sale will go to the Children in Crisis charity.
Among the rare lots featured in this year’s auction is a bottle of Hine Grande Champagne Cognac 1964 in a presentation box designed by Parisian jeweler Arthus-Bertrand, which carries an estimate of €5,000.
Meanwhile Rémy Martin has donated a magnum decanter of its “290th Anniversary Coupe”, which is taken from a “perpetual reserve” built up by four generations of cellar master. It carries an estimate of €15,000.
However, the highest estimate is held by “Coupe No1”, an hors d’age Cognac offered by Hennessy, which represents a blend of the house’s top expressions, including Richard Hennessy. The Cognac is presented in a one litre Baccarat crystal carafe with a bespoke Guerlain seal and carries an estimate of €20,000.
Commenting on the 25 lots put forward for this year’s event, Jean-Marc Morel and Catherine Le Page from the BNIC said: “These prestigious donations recount the exceptional history of Cognac and the harmony of the eau-de-vie and elegance. Cognac is an emblem of a renowned art de vivre that we are all delighted to share during this special evening.”
