Footballer splashes out on £17K fizz

England under-21 and Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has been seen full of fizz as he cradles a 15 litre Nebuchadnezzar-sized bottle of Armand de Brignac while on holiday in Spain.

The Daily Mirror reports that the Premier League party boy was living up to type by splashing out on the £17,500 Champagne – known as ‘Ace of Spades’ – on a night out in Spain.

His friends can also be seen clutching regular-sized bottle of the expensive champers – seemingly with at least one for each reveller.

Wickham is just days away from returning to training on Wearside ahead of a crucial season in his development.

The £25K-a-week youngster’s goals saved Sunderland from relegation last season after team boss Gus Poyet’s took a gamble to recall him from a loan spell in the Championship.

But at least he isn’t taking a gamble on his choice of tipple, because when the football ace runs out of his ‘Ace of Spades’ he could always sell the empty bottle for a healthy return (number two).

Very average player over spends on very average champagne.
