Fire destroys Michelin restaurant
Two-Michelin-starred restaurant Manresa in California has been forced to close after a fire ripped through the building.
According to CBS, around 35 firefighters were called to the scene in the early hours of Monday morning after flames were spotted coming through the roof.
The cause of the fire is still subject to investigation, but it is believed to have started outside the restaurant before burning through the attic and interior, causing major damage to the kitchen and service area.
Located to the south of San Francisco, Manresa is owned by chef David Kinch whose American take on European culinary tradition earned the restaurant a ranking of 62nd in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014. Kinch is understood to have been in New York at the time of the fire.
A notice on the restaurant’s website said: “We are currently closed and not taking reservations until further notice. We are directly contacting those people with upcoming reservations. Thank you to the local community and our culinary colleagues around the globe for the outpouring of support. We will be back!”
