Winery to host wine tasting marathon
A UK winery is preparing to host its 5th Annual Bacchus charity marathon complete with dedicated wine tasting stations along its 26-mile route.
The charity event, organised by Denbies Wine Estate in Surrey, will take place on Sunday, 14 September, with entrants invited to run or walk the course tasting some of the estate’s finest wines as they go.
The event will raise money for the Princess Alice Hospice, a local charity dedicated to providing care and support for patients and careers.
Emma Waggott, of the Princess Alice fundraising team said: “We are delighted to have been selected to be the official charity partner for the fifth Bacchus Festival.
“It’s an extraordinary event and very popular, with stunning views for runners to enjoy between their wine-tasting stops.”
For those who prefer their hedonism with less sadism a half marathon and a 2.5km ‘fun run’ will also be held on the day.
The event will take place on the same weekend as the original wine marathon, the Medoc Marathon in Bordeaux.
Denbies is England’s largest commercial vineyard, having produced wine since 1986.
