HDH lines up historic Chicago sale

Hart Davis Hart has announced the largest sale in its history, spanning “unique” offerings from France, Italy, Germany, Australia and the US to take place in Chicago at the end of the month.

Set to take place on 27 and 28 June, the sale will feature 3,000 lots – including 100 lots of Mouton Rothschild, 400 of red Burgundy and 90 from Bruno Giacosa – in four principal collections and is expected to realise between US$5.7 million and $8.5m.

The first collection is of old Bordeaux from “The Fox Cellar”, highlights of the 178 lots include cases of 1982 Lafite and Mouton in multiple formats.

Lots 179 to 286 come from the cellar of a longstanding HDH client, Thomas Bentley, and features more first growths including verticals dating back to the 1960s as well as mature Champagne such as a case of 1982 Dom Pérignon.

On the second day, lots 1496 to 2169 will come from the collection of Stephen Nelson and Vincci Lo and features 1997 Musigny from Domaine Leroy, 1990 Côte Rôtie from Marius Gentaz-Dervieux and 1975 Yquem.

Finally a selection of 50 superb German lots will help finish the sale with producers such as Egon Müller, JJ Prüm, Fritz Haag and Schloss Johannisberg all appearing, as do rare single bottles of wine from the 1930s and 1950s.

Not part of any one collection, a particularly strong selection of Bruno Giacosa wines includes full and half cases of 1989 Barolo Riserva, Collina Rionda and Falleto, 1989 Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefano, and both 1986 and 1996 Barolo Riserva Falleto.

Penfolds Grange, Sassicaia, Sine Qua Non, Gaja, Ausone, La Landonne and Petrus will also be available.
