Smuggler claims beer stash was for own use
A suspected smuggler who was caught with 250 litres of alcohol and 3,400 litres of beer claimed his cargo was for his personal use.
The man, who had managed to get past Swedish customs, was stopped by two officers on the motorway between the towns of Landskrona and Helsingborgin in Southern Sweden, according to a report in thelocal.se.
A search revealed thousands of litres of alcohol and 150 cartons of cigarettes which he said he was going to drink himself.
Despite his claims, the Swedish police now suspect him of smuggling.
The man would have to drink in excess of nine beers a day for a year to drain his cargo, the report said.
