Case of 1982 Lafite tops auction at $42k

An original wood case of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 was the top selling item at Zachys’ New York Spring auction this week selling for $41,650.

Other top lots in the auction, which saw its 824 lots realise sales of $2.9 million, included a seven bottle lot of Sassicaia 1985 which sold for $14,700 and a number of classic vintages of Barolo which were said to have “exceeded expectations”.

Four bottles of Barolo Collina Rionda di Serralunga Riserva Speciale Bruno Giacosa 1978 sold for $7,692.

Bidders responded very favorably to our featured Italian offerings which was very exciting as an auctioneer to see. Bordeaux showed continued strength as evidenced by the strong hammers.

“California and the Rhone showed solid results, in keeping with recent trends. I am very happy with the excitement that this sale generated and the prospects in the works for our fall schedule.”
